Tips for a Safe and Comfy Summer Road Trip with Your Pet

With COVID-19 lockdown restrictions easing up across the country, more and more pet owners are eager to venture outdoors for some rest and relaxation. According to a news report by WTOL 11, the American Automobile Association (AAA) estimates that roughly 700 million Americans will be traveling this summer, with most of them choosing to go by car. This mode of transportation allows families to bring their fur babies along for the ride.

Are you planning a summer vacation with your fur babies? To ensure everything goes smoothly, here are a few tips to keep in mind while preparing for your trip:

How To Enjoy Your Road Trip With Your Pets

First, check if your pet’s microchip is working and if their ID information is correct and up to date. Should your pup go missing during your trip, these two things will greatly increase your chances of being reunited with your pet, according to Dr. RuthAnn Lobos, Merrick Pet Care’s lead veterinarian.

Second, make sure to properly secure your dog in the back seat of your car. “We wear our seatbelts in the car, and our pets should, too,” says Dr. Lobos. If you have a small or medium dog, it’s best to invest in a custom dog car seat belt that’s designed to easily attach to any car seatbelt receptacle. If your pup is of a larger breed, you may opt for a pet-specific car safety harness instead.

Finally, create a packing checklist of your pet’s essentials, and make sure to prepare all the items before the trip. Your pet’s personal suitcase should include the basics, such as dog food, potable water and a few treats. It’s also a good idea to shop in advance for martingale collars, custom dog beds, and custom collapsible travel cups.

If you own a business in the automobile industry, you can cater to these car-owning pet parents by teaming up with a wholesale provider of custom pet products. You can sell or give away handy items such as branded car seat belts or harnesses, car seat covers, foldable travel bowls and zippered poop bag pouches and poop bag refills, to name a few.

With your company’s logo, name, and colors prominently displayed on these products, your audience will be sure to remember your brand even after their vacation is over.
