Huntsville Animal Services is offering no-cost adoptions until August 31, 2023 in support of the “Clear Shelters” campaign, a nationwide initiative to encourage pet adoption and reduce animal shelter overcrowding.
According to a news item posted on the City of Huntsville website, adoption fees have been waived on most of the adult dogs and cats currently quartered at the shelter, although some exceptions apply. All adoptable pets come fully vaccinated, microchipped, spayed or neutered, and outfitted with a City license. Adopters will also be provided with a complimentary bag of dry pet food while supplies last.
Huntsville Animal Services is one of hundreds of shelters and animal welfare organizations participating in the annual “Clear the Shelters” campaign. Last year, the campaign successfully found permanent homes for a record high of over 161,000 animals, and the hope is that this year’s adoption numbers exceed this figure.
The Joy of Fostering Shelter Animals
Overcrowding is one of the biggest difficulties faced by animal shelters around the US. Many organizations frequently find themselves taking in more pets than they’re able to adopt out at any given time, which places a strain on their already limited resources. Animal lovers who’d like to help address this issue but are unable to commit to permanent pet ownership can consider fostering, which frees up space in shelters and ensures humane living conditions for animals waiting for their forever homes.
Welcoming a shelter dog can be an immensely fulfilling experience, and preparing your home to accommodate them is one of the best ways to prepare for it. Designate a safe space in your house for your foster, such as a quiet corner or even a separate room. Don’t forget to fill the space with wholesale dog toys, personalized dog blankets, and even a comfy bed to make it even more comfortable.
