Cedar City, Utah’s Main Street Park played host to a skills demonstration by a group of local K-9 police dogs and their handlers last Monday evening. The annual event, known as “Police Dogs and Hot Dogs in the Park,” was well-attended by members of the community, who enjoyed free hot dogs as they watched officers from various agencies stage a wide array of training scenarios.

According to Cedar City News, the event serves as a fundraiser for Friends of Iron County Police K9, a nonprofit organization that helps support retired K-9 officers. Upon giving up active duty, these canines typically live out the rest of their lives with their handlers as the latter’s pets.

Ryan Bauer, a member of the organization’s board and himself a former sergeant on the Utah Highway patrol, explained to attendees that Friends of Iron County Police K9 shoulders the cost of dog food and medical expenses to ease the financial burden on handlers.

Highlights of the “Police Dogs and Hot Dogs in the Park” event included a simulated traffic stop following a car chase and a deployment from a helicopter. Participating police dogs successfully subdued the actor playing the role of the suspect or aggressor in every case.

Keep Your Dog Happy and Healthy with Regular Outdoor Play

Like people, both working dogs and house dogs benefit from a change of scenery from time to time. Engaging in regular outdoor play and exercise is one of the best ways to get them that much-needed stimulation.

Whether you take your dog out for regular walks around your neighborhood or play games together in the yard, spending time outside together will give their physical and mental health a much-needed boost. Investing in wholesale dog toys like chew toys, rope toys, frisbees, and even a custom dog tennis ball can also help them make the most of their outdoor time.
