PrideBites x Wholesale Cat Toys and Collars: How to Add a Branded Cat Line

Wholesale cat toys are custom catnip toys, wand toys, and cat accessories ordered in volume with your branding on them, either to sell as part of an assortment or to use in a campaign. If you already run a branded dog line, adding cat is the lowest effort expansion available to you, because the buyer, the supplier, and the artwork are already in place. This guide covers what changes when you move from dog to cat, and what to settle before you order.

Most brands that enter the pet category enter it through dogs. Dogs are more visible, they go to more places, and the merchandise is easier to photograph. The result is that cat owners are routinely served last, or not at all, by brand programs that already have their attention.

Should you add cat products to a branded pet line?

The case for cat rests on three things.

Coverage. A pet line that is dog only is addressing part of its own audience. Households own cats in large numbers, and a customer with a cat reads a dog-only assortment as a line that is not for them.

Low incremental effort. You have already done the hard parts. The brand guidelines exist, the artwork exists, the vendor relationship exists, and the merchandising slot exists. Cat is usually two or three SKUs added to an approved program, not a new program.

Less competition for attention. The dog side of branded pet merchandise is crowded. The cat side is not, which means a well-made branded catnip toy stands out more than the equivalent dog toy would.

The market context supports the category as a whole: 95 million U.S. households own a pet, and Americans spent $158 billion on pets in 2024 with $165 billion projected for 2026 (American Pet Products Association).

This is the Resell motion: expanding your brand into the pet space with products your customers buy. If your interest is campaign use rather than resale, the Engage motion is the better starting point.

What cat products can be custom made?

PrideBites makes three families of cat product, all fully customizable in your colors, with your logo and your identity.

  • Plush catnip toys. The closest cat equivalent to a branded plush dog toy, and the one that carries artwork best. See customizable plush catnip toys and catnip toys.
  • Catnip wand toys. Interactive rather than solo play, and a good second SKU alongside a plush. See catnip wand toys.
  • Cat collars. The accessory line, usually ordered where the assortment already includes dog collars. See cat collars.

The full current range sits in the for cats collection. Products are made to be safe for dogs and cats and are Prop 65 compliant after safety testing, which is the documentation a retail compliance review will ask for.

How is a cat order different from a dog order?

Four practical differences are worth planning around.

Scale. Cat products are small. Artwork that fills a large plush dog toy has to be simplified for a catnip mouse, and fine detail in a logo can be lost. Ask for the mockup and judge the mark at actual size, not on screen.

Sizing is simpler, variant count is not. Cats do not span the size range dogs do, which removes one problem. But minimum order quantity at PrideBites is per size, per design, and sizes cannot be mixed to reach a minimum. Two colorways is two designs against the minimum. Keep the first order narrow.

Merchandising placement. Cat products sell next to cat products. If the pet section is arranged around dogs, a single cat SKU dropped into it tends to go unnoticed. Two or three SKUs grouped together perform better than one placed alone.

Buying occasion. Cat toys are replaced, not upgraded. That makes them a natural fit for a repeat purchase or a gift with purchase, which is different from how a branded dog bed or collar behaves.

Lead time and minimums for wholesale cat toys

Standard production is 6 to 8 weeks and does not include shipping time. Custom plush can vary with complexity, and a catnip plush is a custom plush, so allow the upper end of that range if the design is intricate.

Sequence a launch backwards from the in-hand date. Artwork approval sits ahead of production and is the step buyers most often underestimate, particularly when a logo has to clear a brand review internally. Transit is additional to the production window and varies by shipping method, and international shipments carry duties and taxes to the customer's account. PrideBites ships with UPS and DHL.

Two things reduce the risk of a first cat order. The first is the free custom mockup, typically within 48 hours, with no cost and no commitment. The second is a physical sample, available through an account executive, which is the only reliable way to judge a small plush. Private label is available if the product needs to carry your brand rather than a supplier's.

Where a branded cat line fits

The brands that do this well are usually not pet brands. They are consumer brands with a loyal audience and a merchandise program already running: breweries and taprooms, wineries and vineyards, hotels and hospitality, coffee shops and roasteries, liquor and distilleries, food and beverage. Cat is the SKU that finishes the pet section rather than the one that starts it.

PrideBites has worked with 500 or more brand partners over 12 years and shipped more than a million custom pet products, for brands including O.P.I, Michter's Distillery, Portland Leather, Arby's, and Cafe Du Monde. Retail partners such as Buc-ee's, TOMS, and Subaru run the resell motion; see how the category maps to yours on the industries page, and resell tips for merchandising guidance.

If you are still choosing a production partner rather than a product, the guide to choosing a custom pet toy manufacturer covers the questions to ask before you commit.

Frequently asked questions

What is the minimum order for wholesale cat toys?

Minimums apply per size and per design, and sizes cannot be mixed to reach a minimum. One design in one size is the smallest practical first order, and each additional colorway counts as a separate design. Quantity price breaks apply at thresholds that vary by product. Contact PrideBites for current figures.

How long do custom cat toys take to produce?

Standard production is 6 to 8 weeks and excludes shipping. Catnip plush toys are custom plush, so complex designs can sit at the upper end of that window. Allow additional time ahead of production for artwork approval, which is the step most buyers underestimate on a first order.

Can cat toys and cat collars be ordered together?

Yes, though each product and each size carries its own minimum, so a multi SKU launch is several minimums rather than one. Grouping two or three cat SKUs together usually merchandises better than a single cat product placed inside a dog assortment.

Can branded cat products be private labeled?

Yes. Private label means the product carries your brand rather than a supplier's, which is the standard route for retailers adding a pet section. Raise it at the brief stage, because it affects labeling and packaging decisions that are difficult to change once production is underway.

Are custom catnip toys safe?

PrideBites products are made to be safe for dogs and cats and are Prop 65 compliant after safety testing. If you are stocking for retail, request the compliance documentation during the brief rather than after the purchase order, so your own compliance review does not become the constraint on your launch date.
